Historic Band
Pep Band
Year in Review

The 2015 School Year began with the band performing at the Christian Brothers Ring Ceremony in August and the dedication of the new STEMM building, McEniry Hall, on the Christian Brothers Campus in September. In October the band performed at Immaculate Conception for the celebration of Br. Joel's 50th Anniversary as a Christian Brother. Br. Joel is a member of the Band Hall of Fame and graduate of 1964. The Concert Band concluded the Fall Semester with their annual Fall Concert in which they premiered the work A Joyful Noise by James Richens, written to celebrate Br. Joel's Anniversary. Also performed was Popeye the Sailor Man, in honor of Robin Williams, brother of Christian Brothers Science Teacher Mac Smith-Williams,  who passes away in 2014.

In October, the Pep Band headed to St. Louis to perform at the Christian Brothers High School vs Christian Brothers College High School football game.  At halftime, the band played alongside their brother band from St. Louis. After the Friday night football game, the band had fun at the St. Louis City Museum and Six Flags before returning home. The Pep Band was delighted to watch at the football team beat MUS, and in the Spring the Basketball Pep Band performed not only for CBHS but also for the Christian Brothers University Homecoming Game.

The Historic Band had a busy season with performances for the 175th Anniversary of the St. Peter's Parish on Adams. The band played on the lawn of the Magevney House and serenaded parishioners including Charlie Cahill, Band Hall of Fame Member. The historic band was also honored to participate in the Magnificat Day Parade in November that marched down Main Street from the Canon Center to Court Square. The band also performed at the annual National Honor Society Induction, The Massing of the Colors, and the Veterans Day Parade down Second Street. The Historic Band concluded its season by participating the Memphis Holiday Parade down Beale Street in December.

Over the Holiday Break, the band received free tickets to watch Texas A&M at the Liberty Bowl and hear the Aggie War Hymn being performed by the college who played it first. In January, selected Seniors (Ben Neilsen, Joey Forcherio, and Henry Atkinson) performed for the dedication of the St. Peter's Parish Hall Grand Piano, dedicated in the memory of Br. Vincent Malham.

In the Spring, many bandsmen participated in Honor Bands in the area, including the ICTHYS Honor Band, University of Memphis and Mississippi State Honor Band. The Christian Brothers Band also made history with 21 of its members placing in the All West Honor Bands and Orchestras. Six members went on to All State. One of the greatest accomplishments of the year, however, was in March for the WTSBOA Concert Festival in Jackson, TN where the band received straight ones in both performance and sight reading in the highest division possible: Grade VI. The band was judged again at their Spring Concert to superior ratings in the Briarcrest Concert Festival, performing a concert entitled "The Night Sky" which incorporated works like Saint-Saens Occident and Orient, Beacon of Poloris by Gilroy, and an arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner by John Williams to celebrate the 200th anniversary of our National Anthem.

The Christian Brothers Band concluded its year with their annual presence at Graduation performing Bless This House. After graduation, Bless This House was heard again, performed by graduating seniors at the Kenrick Hall Wake on the campus of CBU. The Kenrick Hall attic was the Christian Brothers Band room for many years. It was built in 1940 and torn down in 2014 to make room for a modern building.
