Bands at Christian Brothers

Concert Band

Founded in 1872 the Christian Brothers Concert Band is the oldest high school band in America. The concert band has an unbroken lineage of concert recordings dating band to 1947 and has traveled to 30 states throughout America, Washington D.C. and Canada.

The Concert Band meets every other day during the school year and presents two semester concerts a year along with tours and other engagements. 

In the Spring the Concert Band is divided into two groups: the Gold and Purple Bands based on talent and years of service. 


 

Silver Cornet Band

Founded in 1996 by Mike Krepper for the 125th anniversary of the Christian Brothers in Memphis, the Silver Cornet Band at Christian Brothers High School is a unique ensemble that carries on the roll and tradition of the first bands at Chrisitan Brothers.  This band wears replica uniforms and uses the traditional town band instrumentation. The band can be seen for dedications, parades, concerts and ceremonies throught the city.

Walnut Groove

Walnut Groove is the Jazz arm of the Christian Brothers music department and performs a wide range of music including Jazz, Funk, and Rhythm and Blues.

The group performs tours and other engagements and meets in the Spring Semester. 

Wind Ensemble

The Christian Brothers Wind Ensemble comprises of chamber ensembles that perform two concerts a year. 

The Sound Wave

The Sound Wave is the Pep Band at Christian Brothers High School. They perform at athletic events throughout the year. 

The Pep Band and Concert Band are made up with the same Personnel.
